Widely cited as one of the most influential, yet criminally underrated, songwriters of his generation, John Prine was known for humorous lyrics about love, life, and current events, as well as for serious songs with social commentary and others that recollect melancholy tales from his life. In 2020, he received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Hi sad passing on April 7th 2020, following complications caused by COVID-19, at the age of 73, was a tragic loss for family friends and fans alike – which numbered many big music names, from Bob Dylan to Billy Brag among hundreds of others. This delightful and elegant boxed set stands as a tribute to the life and music of John Prince, featuring as it does a number of live studio recordings made by John throughout his career, all of which were the subject of live radio broadcasts at the time. DISC ONE includes John s superb performance given at Rockefellers in Houston, Texas, on 6th February 1984. Prine performed 2 shows that night, and the one here is his quite magnificent late show. DISC TWO, features another extraordinary gig, this time played in Denver, Colorado at the city s Rainbow Music Hall, on 22nd February 1979. DISC THREE contains all John Prine s superb BBC Sessions recorded in the BEEB s studios in 1971 and 1973.
